Established in 1994, DCS ApS has grown to become one of Denmark's largest IT distributors and suppliers. Based in Trige, north of Aarhus, the company operates a state-of-the-art warehouse with over 250,000 products. Their extensive product range includes more than 12,500 different items in stock, ready to be shipped, and available 24 hours a day through their online shop. The move to a new, larger warehouse was part of DCS's continuous effort to innovate and optimise their business operations in response to market dynamics. However, the new warehouse layout resulted in significantly longer walking distances in the packaging department, placing a strain on employees and slowing down packaging processes, which could ultimately impact delivery times.
With Sealing System as the integrator, the new packaging solution centers around the Packsize X5, which has automated a significant portion of the packaging process at DCS. This advanced machine produces custom-sized boxes tailored precisely to product dimensions, reducing the average processing time per customer order to an impressive 22 minutes (from the website order until the customer gets a message that his item has been shipped). The Packsize X5 enables DCS to produce up to 600 boxes per hour, meeting the high-volume demand for cardboard boxes.
The X5 seamlessly integrates into the process workflow, allowing boxes to be transported directly to a buffer conveyor after assembly. This ensures efficient processing and minimal material usage, as boxes are custom-fit for each product.
Strategically placed conveyors throughout the warehouse ensure that once products are picked and boxed, they are efficiently transported further. At these stations, products are also weighed and photographed, significantly reducing errors. Additionally, there is a dedicated product line for items that have already been wrapped.
